Counselling

Are you feeling the need for some support in navigating your life currently? Perhaps you've been walking a long and rough road, or are living with the ongoing impact of traumatic events? Maybe a loved one has encouraged you to seek counselling, and you're not sure where to start? People decide to seek counselling for many reasons, including:

  • depression

  • anxiety

  • a history of sexual assault

  • domestic and family violence

  • sleep troubles and/or recurring nightmares

  • childhood abuse, neglect or abandonment

  • autism or other neurodiverse-related challenges

  • other trauma-related impact

  • parenting support

The modalities below are my areas of focus, however we will work together to discover what works best for you, based on your needs. Working from a somatic/body-based, trauma-informed and healing-centred lens allows me to support your need for safety as the priority, and to tailor the approach to meet you where you are.

Natural Dreamwork

Deeply experiential in practice, Natural Dreamwork steps away from interpretation. Instead, together we seek to bring your dreams to life.  Explore the deep transformation possible from attending to the part of our lives that is all too often undervalued. Working with your dreams can help to clarify waking life conflicts, bring a new or wider awareness to areas we feel "stuck" and expand our emotional range, among other benefits. Persistent nightmares can contribute to mental health issues and studies have shown that treatment with dream work has been helpful in alleviating the frequency and impact of nightmares.

Kimberlee has been a lifelong dreamer herself, and is a Natural Dreamwork practitioner-in-training. Natural Dreamwork was founded by Rodger Kamenetz, a poet and author of The History of Last Night's Dream. She has also completed training with other Dreamworkers such as Robert Moss, Toko-pa Turner, Christopher Sowton & Leslie Ellis

"A dream ignored is like a letter unopened" ~ Middle Eastern proverb

"It is fruitless to waste your time trying to understand an external situation unless you also identify the psychological patterns within you that affect it. And it is towards those patterns that your dreams usually point." ~Robert Johnson

Sensorimotor Art Therapy

Experience the power of using this creative approach to enhance your connection with your Self and your body; to support meaning-making out of your life-experiences. The practices of Guided Drawing and other sensorimotor art therapy exercises developed by Cornelia Elbrecht and others are very effective ways of working with the impacts of trauma,  or where other challenging and intense experiences have left their imprint.

Kimberlee holds a Certificate in Initiatic Art Therapy from the Institute of Sensorimotor Art Therapy (ISAT) founded by Cornelia Elbrecht and a Certificate in Art Therapy from the College for Educational and Clinical Art Therapy (CECAT). She's also completed a Certificate in Somatic Strategies with Linda Thai.

"The spontaneous movement in all of us is toward connection, health, and aliveness. No matter how withdrawn and isolated we have become or how serious the trauma we have experienced, on the deepest level, just as a plant spontaneously moves towards sunlight, there is in each of us and impulse moving toward connection and healing." ~Aline LaPierre & Lawrence Heller

Parenting Support
_____

Support your child's ability to successfully manage their emotions. Learn to honour your child's inborn wisdom; behaviours you may struggle with are your child's way of attempting to ensure a secure connection with you. Understand how you were parented affects what you are already doing, and not yet doing, for your child. Explore how art and play can support your child's development and your relationship with them.

Kimberlee is a Circle of Security Parent Facilitator, and a trained Theraplay practitioner.

"When we see a behaviour that is problematic or confusing, the first question we should ask isn't "how do we get rid of it?" but rather "what is this telling us about the child?"

~Mona Delahooke
